injury. did the yankees win? this is "way too early." good morning. i'm bill karins in for brian shactman. it's monday, july 29th. negotiators will sit down for peace talks. they will meet in washington, d.c. it follows a series of recent moves of those relations thanks to john kerry. over the weekend israel announced the release of 104 palestinian prisoners. many were convicted of killing israelis. the move was met with protests from the victims' families. neither government is providing a framework for negotiations, which will likely focus on the borders, juish settlements and control of jerusalem.

it was a deadly weekend in egypt where more than 80 people were killed after a series of clashes with egyptian authorities. the most severe was in cairo saturday night. eyewitness accounts say police forces opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd of muslim brotherhood allies. the violence came a day after hundreds of thousands marched in support of the military, which called for a mandate to fight terror. secretary of state john kerry called it a pivotal moment urging leaders to take a step back from the brink. there are some mixed messages when it comes to how americans are dealing with today's economy. a survey finds 80% of adults will at some point in their lives deal with near poverty, joblessness or dependence on welfare. more than 46 million people in u.s. are poor. that's 15% of the population. some of the big factors include the loss of manufacturing jobs and a growing gap between the rich and needy. with another fight over the

debt limit looming, treasury secretary jack lew joined request meet the press" to get a deal done. >> the fight in 2011 hurt the economy even though in the end we saw an extension of the debt limit. e we saw confidence fall and it hurt the economy. congress needs to do its job. it needs to finish its work on appropriation bills. they cannot fix the problems created by across the board cuts known as sequestration by cutting domestic priorities to fund defense. that's unacceptable. >> congress has until september 30th to strike a new agreement to fund the government to avoid a potential shutdown. senator tom coburn is speaking out against a group of fellow republicans who raised the idea of withholding funding unless obama care is defunded. he said supporters of the idea are being dishonest adding it's

a denial of reality. senator mike lee, who along with rubio, paul and cruz, is leading the effort to stop obama care, admitted the government will likely get its funding while adding it's a compliment to receive criticism on both sides of the aisle. and president obama's responding to critics who fault him for delaying a requirement that businesses provide insurance to their employees. >> there's not an action i take that you don't have some folks in congress who say that i'm usurping my authority. some of those folks say i you surp my authority by saying i have the gall to win the presidency. and i don't think that's a secret. ultimately, i'm not concerned about their condition opinions. >> glen green wall is not just

saying it's high officials that can listen in on phone calls and monitor e-mails. according to one reporter, there are low level contractors like edward snowden who have access to the vast intelligence gathering power. >> all an analyst has to do is enter an e-mail address or i.p. address and does two things. it it searches that database and let's them listen to the calls or read e-mails or look at the browsing histories or google search terms and alerts them to any further activity that people connected to that e-mail address or i.p. address do in the future. it's no need to go to a court with no need to get supervisor approval. >> the scandal surrounding bob mcdonald continues to grow. this morning "the washington post" is reporting his wife spent thousands of dollars from her husband's pac on clothes and other items. she reportedly spent more than $6,000 at nordstroms, macy's,

saks, and ann taylor. it's legal under virginia's campaign finance laws, but it's another hit for the governor. he's under scrutiny for accepting luxury gifts from that virginia businessman. a spokesman for the governor says the first lady's clothes will be donated to charity when his term ends in january. from a public relations point of view, the wheels have been falling off anthony weiner's bid for mayor. we learned from the former congressman's campaign manager he decided to step down creating a va kcancy in the day-to-day operations of the campaign. "the new york times" suggests the departure is tied to the revelation that he continues his online activities well beyond his resignation from congress. meanwhile, here's what's new, the mayoral candidate spent over $43,000 in campaign cash on a private investigator to

determine who sent that nasty inappropriate picture in 2011 that ended his congressional career. he later admitted that he was the one that sent it it. i wonder if the investigator found him. now there appears to be a consensus in some circles that his attempt at a political comeback is on thin ice. >> he should do everybody a favor and step to the sidelines. he's not qualified to be mayor of city of new york. >> this isn't a story that anybody is happy to see splashed all over the front pages and news. i think they as much as anyone would like to see this go away. >> it's absurd. he's not going to be the next mayor of new york. he's waste iing time and space. and you asked at the beginning, americans believe in second chances, but not third chances. >> as we mentioned at the top of the show, it's been a tough summer. it was a tough weekend for people traveling around our country and the world.

it was much worse this weekend. this morning investigators remain on the scene of a deadly helicopter crash in pennsylvania. officials say five people died in the accident that may have been caused by thunderstorms on saturday. they haven't released the names of the victims, but they believe they were three men, a woman and a child on board. to arizona where no one was hurt when a flash flood flipped this tour bus over. it happened yesterday near kingman in the northern portions of arizona. all 31 people on board reportedly okay. now to new york where a second body was found after a deadly boat crash friday night. tragic, the passengers were celebrating a wedding set for next weekend. police believe the bride-to-be and best man were killed in the accident. investigators believe the driver on the boat was drunk at the time of the accident. now to italy, at least 38 dead. look at this bus just mangle d. another 10 injured. this bus broke through a

guardrail and fell 100 feet into a ravine. police reportedly believe the bus had brake problems, but the exact cause of the accident remains unclear. 49 people were believed to be on board the bus at the time of the accident. and finally in spain, the driver of the train that derailed and killed 79 people has been charged with negligent homicide. according to reports, the driver has admitted to taking the curve too fast. 70 people with still being treated for injuries and 22 remain in critical condition. pope francis wrapped up his trip to brazil with a massive gathering on the beach in rio. more than 3 million people gathered on the beach to pray with the leader of the catholic church along the 2.5-mile shoreline. he called on catholic youth to become more active saying they must overcome and offer christian responses to the various political and social challenges in the world. the pope also said, quote, jesus

offers us something bigger than the world cup alluding to the soccer tournament being hosted by brazil. now to business where the invest tors will be waiting for the jobs report as an indicator of the economic strength. and last week's final day of trading shs the dow rallied to log its fifth straight week of gains. for more, let's check in with jeffrey who is live in london. what's in store this week? >> good morning, bill. when americans are feeling better about the outlook and that's showing up in the consumer sentiment numbers here. this is a six-year high for this important series of data here. and it it seems that some of these better share price moves, the house price increases, and also a few more jobs being taken is contributing to this more positive sentiment about the economy going forward. so we'll be looking to see if some of that showing up in big

purchase decisions like cars, other parts of the u.s. economy. so that's a positive. here's an interesting story. we have a major deal in the ad space. a paris head quarter company tying up together here. you go, interesting. premium deal, why are they doing it? the combined revenues, $22 billion for last year, you look at google. $50 billion. technology is transforming this industry. clearly these two businesses see this is not a bad time for them to tie up and try to bring some buying power back to this space for them. >> jeffrey, you a wolverine fan? >> i love the films. i think xmen has been a tremendous series. $55 million was the domestic box office. they did $85 million back in 2009 when the series really

the plate for good measure. dodgers two and a half games in first place. the u.s. men's soccer team added a little gold to the trophy case winning the gold cup term with a victory over panama on sunday. he poked in a long pass to score the only goal of the match. it's the fifth gold cup title for the americans. it's the first gold cup win since 2007. let's get to the weather headlines. anyone in philadelphia, what a day you had yesterday. it rained and rained and rained. it was thunderstorms overhead, eight inches of rain. some pretty crazy flood pcing. the most rain philadelphia has ever had in a day. it was mostly confined to the airport and downtown region. d.c. and baltimore, much less. it's a dry morning, thankfully. and eventually the sun will come out for people in the east. the big weather story today,

more than any other western country since the 1960s. now to my old friend, what do you have at water cooler? >> it's great to see you. the film festival brings the top names in the movie industry 234 the south of france. also attracts some of the most impressive thieves. a thief made off with jewels and gems valued at more than $50 million. the collection was on display for the summer at the carlton international hotel. a single gunman stuffed a suitcase filled with jewels and ran off. this could be the second largest jewel heist ever in france and experts say it shouldn't be that hard to sell the gems on the black market. pretty crazy. now turning to vladimir putin, another appearance on the internet for him and the layest installment the russian president can be seen reeling in a tremendous pike. his spokesman said it weighed 43 pounds. he was fishing with a group of
